The wind brushed Marshpaw's ginger tabby pelt gently, his short fur ruffling slightly. He sighed, flicking a leaf off of his face with one claw from his murky brown right forepaw. The apprentice shifted, opening his emerald green eyes and sitting upward. He yawned openly, stretching out his claws.

Papercut limped over to the apprentice, pawing him lightly over the ear as he approached. "C'mon lazy, we have some training to do." He said, chuckling, as he waited for Marshpaw to get up.

Marshpaw grumbled. "Why? I've already hunted rabbits! What else to I need to learn?" He knew he needed to learn how to hunt birds, but of course, Marshpaw thought he didn't need any training.

Apprentices! They think they know everything! Papercut thought silently, remembering his own days as a trainee, "Today you're learning how to hunt birds" He told Marshpaw, his eyes already scanning the surrounding trees for a good target. "They're better than rabbits, anyhow."

Marshpaw, his eyes flickering to a tree standing alone in the Bushlands, saw a strange blue bird in the tree. He flung himself at the tree, grabbing onto the bark and inching upwards. He then leaped off the tree and grabbed the bird, but he forgot the force of gravity, and whiskers away from the bird he fell to the ground. He hissed and the bird chirped tauntingly before flying off.

"Would you wait a second!?" Papercut scolded, finally eying a plump cardinal sitting in a tree not too far away. He quickly glanced back to Marshpaw, "You alright?" He asked, looking down at his apprentice lying on the ground. "Still, can't say I feel sorry for you," He commented.
"Anyway, see that bird over there?" He indicated with his paw to the cardinal, "It's fatter, so it should be easier to catch. Now, this time, sneak up quietly and instead of leaping off the tree, try just grabbing the bird in your jaws and climbing down."

Marshpaw leaped to the opportunity, climbing swiftly up the tree. He grinned as an idea popped into his head and he climbed above the bird, a few fox-tails above. He held his weight on his forepaws, wrapped his hind legs around it in a hook-way, then hung upside down, stretching down like a yo-yo and snatching it in his paws before releasing his hind legs, twisting in mid-air so he landed as if he were a Twoleg, balanced for a few moments before transferring the bird to his mouth and landing on his four paws. He smiled smugly.

Papercut grinned, impressed. "Pfft, beginner's luck," He joked, pretending not to notice the display of clear talent on Marshpaw's part. "Next time, try catching it the proper way," He said, stretching luxouriously "But I think we should head back to camp for now. I'll take you out again later, but I'm feeling a bit lazy at the moment." He said, being completely serious.

"Really now? I'll show you lousy!" And with that, Papercut made his way over to a nearby tree, quickly scrambling up it's side to one of the higher branches. Carefully balanced on one paw, he struck out with his other at a bird that was perched on the branch, knocking it off the branch. Jumping off the branch after it, Papercut caught it in his mouth and landed on the ground with a slight 'thud'.
