 hunting;; Tidalwave & Thunderstorm
« Thread Started on May 12, 2007, 3:15pm »

The figure of a tom darted through the forest in pursuit of a rather fast-moving squirrel. The fallen leaves, pine needles and twig cracked beneath his paws as his masculine legs pumped hard against the ground. The squirrel broke from the Grove a moment before turning back, but just as he entered the Grove, the tom outstretched his forearms and his claws dug into its furry body. Blood spilled onto the ground as the tom leaped up quickly and snapped its spine, the squirrel's warm body like Chicken Soup on a cold winter day. But it was Sunstrong, but the shadow cast by the Grove made a chilly atmosphere.

The tom lifted the squirrel in his mouth, his deep brown eyes locking on a figure in the forest. His creamy white pelt with brownish black patches moved quickly through the trees, stopping in front of the she-cat. He dropped the squirrel.

"Would you like some, Tidalwave?" Thunderstorm asked his leader politely. He grinned with amusement. "Squirrels put up a good fight. Fish are easier."

Tidalwave motioned her head awkwardly.
Something inside her made her feel light-headed, lovely.
She darted to it, feeling half-starved after being busy with hunting and patrols all day, Tidalwave had forgotten to eat.

He grinned and ripped off the fatter end for her, pawing the skinner end towards himself. He had eaten already, and besides, he was hoping to impress his leader. He bit into the squirrel, loving the warmth it gave him. He leaned on a tree and heard a rustle. He glanced up and his heart skipped a beat as he spotted a parakeet. They were his favorite prey! Before he could think about what he was doing, he had scrambled up the tree and was balancing on a skinny branch, whiskers away from the parakeet.

Tidalwave's heart thumped. She tried to yell a warning, but nothing came out. She began to quiver, eyes with such a worried shock it was unmistakable.
"N..no!" She whispered, finally.

Thunderstorm reached towards the parakeet and it let out a chirp, flying away. The sudden unbalance of weight cause the branch to snap, and snap Thunderstorm to action. He reached out and grabbed a branch with his forepaw, his arm nearly being wrenched from his socket in the process. Her hoisted himself up so his hind legs were dangling, scrabbling for something to hook his paws onto. The branch he was on snapped again and he was heading for the ground quickly. Luckily, he landed on another branch in his way, and after he pulled himself back together, darted down the tree. "Bluewave's last moments," he murmured so Tidalwave could barely hear. "Were almost mine." He closed his eyes for a long time, scolding himself for such stupidity.

Tidalwave huffed. "Hmph."
She smiled as she leaped onto a low branch, clawing a bird and killing it easily.
The leader grasped the parakeet in her mouth, and laid it on Thunderstorm's paws.

Thunderstorm grabbed the bird and finished it in a few bites. "That was... scary," he huffed. "I almost broke my neck... like..." He glanced up. "Like my brother."

Tidalwave lashed her tail over Thunderstorm's mouth, strong emotions filling her body.
"Just..." Before she could say anything, she stood up and left the grove.

Thunderstorm yowled after his leader. "No! Wait! Tidalwave, I'm sorry!" But he bowed his head and kicked his parakeet, feeling as if someone had cut his heart in two.
